Daily Sports Digest: Softball All-Stars Reach Section Finals - New ...

The New City Little League 9-10 softball all-stars beat Wappinger Falls 9-3 Tuesday night to advance to the championship game of the Section 4 tournament.

Samantha Kaner and Kaitlyn Fudge pitched for New City Tuesday night, keeping the team undefeated in tournament play.

New City's next game is Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Nanuet against the winner of tonight's game between Wappingers Falls and Harrison. With a win Thursday night, New City will advance to the state tournament in Syracuse.

Local Earns Promotion With Miami Dolphins

Pearl River native Brian Gaine was promoted recently to assistant general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

Gaine attended Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey, N.J. and attended the ? ?University of Maine. He first joined an NFL front office in 1999 when he worked in the scouting department for the New York Jets. He worked for the Jets through 2004, and then moved to the Dallas Cowboys, where he was the assistant director of pro scouting for three seasons.

After the 2007 season, Gaine moved onto the Dolphins as their assistant director of player personnel. Last year he was promoted to director of player personnel.

According to MiamiDolphins.com, his promotion to assistant GM will allow him to ?work closely with General Manager Jeff Ireland on the evaluation of players at the professional and collegiate levels as well as be responsible for administrative and scouting responsibilities in both of those areas and continue to oversee the Player Personnel Department. He will also have a more active role in the organization with Head Coach Joe Philbin and his staff, the football administration staff as well as other football operations related business.?
