Taylor and I went to?Virginia?and it was on the way home that we discussed plans for you.
My mom's twin, her husband and three kids live in Newport News and I haven't seen them not even once! since we moved to Pennsylvania in February. So I told TW that he should take me even though I had a nasty cold or I would have to sneeze on him.
So he took me and when we got there six and a half hours later with a dog in tow, I got to see my family for the first time in a year and my heart wanted to explode from overwhelming happiness. From feeling at home! We played Mario Party immediately,?roped?Aunt Jeri into promising herself to a future game of Cranium and Uncle Herald had more conversation with Lola the Dog, but how could he not? She is a mini Wookie.?
They have the sweetest home. I love, love their house. They have a tire swing in the front yard. They have floral wallpaper in their dining room and a happy seashore theme happening in the guest bathroom. And Taylor, who is a mute with most humans he doesn't know, doesn't like, is unrelated to by blood, couldn't help but be disarmed by these people even after such a long time from seeing them.
They got us from the time Charlotte met us in the front yard as we drove up. I tell you.
For a day and a half, we ate all kinds of?home-cooked?dinners and breakfasts (and Krispy Kremes) and played video games and board games and did that kind of laughing where you're choking and coughing and crying.
We talked about the wedding, which was the last time we had seen them, and how mom would be moving in, moving to Newport News at Christmastime. We all decided that if our Christmas was to be spent driving back and forth to help her move, we wouldn't have a better time.
I've already planned my next trip to Virginia for August, before the girls have to go back to school.
It has been a few years since I first started knowing that being near my family needed to be in my sights. It's been a few months since we were able to get on our feet after moving across the country and could finally afford the trip to drive down and see them. And now it's been a week since we went to Virginia and it was impressed on my heart that the things in this world that truly press me with joy are my Taylor, my family, my mom, the animal farm.
And that's how we decided that it was time to plan for a baby, too.
